Preparation! Blog Post Two!
Phew! Korea Here WE Go!
Visa; Long Term Study Abroad-
If you are planning on staying in Korea for more than 90 days you will need to apply for a long term visa (aka D-2-6 student visa is also applicable). Make sure to search for the relevant Consulate for your state, for Arkansas it is the Houston location.
πHere is my checklistπ:
π1. Print your Certificate of Admission in color (sent by your advisor to your email most likely.)
π2.You may need to include a Certificate of Business Registration of the University and Business Registration (your foreign advisor should have sent this to you.)
π3. Include $45 as a mailorder or cash (I did cash but I recommend doing a mail order instead to leave a paper trail.)
π4.Your Visa application fully filled out. Make sure you have your school sponsors information, your passport details (such as passport number), location of where you will be staying, etc...
π5. Proof of Insurance (my school purchased my insurance, so they sent me a document that confirmed my enrollment in that.)
π6.A passport photo to glue to your visa application it needs to be 3.5 x 4.5 cm. Most US places don't print things like this so you'll need to download the T.S Studio App. You will then print it as a 4x6 at your local Walgreens or somewhere and cut out one photo. I suggest signing up for Rakuten before ordering from Walgreens since they provide coupons and cashback for a variety of stores online. Referral Link By singing up you get $20 after you spend $20. This photo must have been taken within the last 6 months and can not be a photo printed on your home computer.
π7. Consent to Quarantine form. During Covid there will be a form saying you do realize that you will have to quarantine upon arrival. That document is located in the Visa Documents tab above. My school is sending transportation to pick us up and take us straight to the dorms to quarantine.
π8. There is a form asking you about your itinerary that is provided above in the Visa Documents section.
π9. Your passport (plus a stamp worth $7.75 or a stamp + envelope so the consulate can send you back your passport. Or you can go pick it up.)
π10. This isn't necessary but I also provided my plane ticket (printed out.)
I sent my documents priority mail
(which is safer) at the post office (they provided the envelope and
stamp). It arrived in about 3-4 days. It cost about $8 to ship it
priority. If you want an extra layer of security you can add for about
$3 the option for the consulate to sign for your package rather than
just being left the package. Because of Covid the process for Visas can
take about 3 weeks so plan accordingly.
